There are a few of ours. Check the photos for a glimpse of some of these moments. To be honest, you know the thing we’re most excited about? What’s still in store for next year! God is on the move in this community, and just seeing Him do His thing is pretty exciting.
So what are you feeling excited about as we wrap out the year?
Not Be Shaken!
Since September we have been regularly broadcasting our sermons online here at pointful.ca and have had readers from all continents of this world. In fact we have had over 6,000 hits since we loaded the website two months ago. Sweet! Thanks to all those who have been stopping by, its been good having you. And for those who have left a comment or two, thanks for the word up. (Pardon the 90′s urban vernacular)
So in order to add a little spice to every one’s day and in order to celebrate the momentous occasion of the site redesign, I left the recorder on during our final song two weeks ago during the War College’s visit, and now I am pleased to bring you our first musical broadcast.
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
I should warn you, that the recording doesn’t do justice to the energy that was in the room on Sunday. But hopefully it gives you a sampling of some of the fun we have singing praises to God on a sunday morning.
Thanks to our guest speaker Aaron White from the War College for providing the unexpected male backup vocals. (note to those not in attendance: Aaron was standing near the sound booth at the back and had no microphone… just happens to have a loud voice that comes over the rest of us… nice.)
Human Trafficking: The Truth Isn’t Sexy
The Truth Isn’t Sexy [link] is a good link to put into your bookmarks and check back to frequently. In fact just this past monday I was at a luncheon with some local political leaders, one of whom commented on the site. He was impressed with the rather edgy name and commercial associated with it. I say coodos to our friends in The Salvation Army’s British Columbia’s PR.
So do yourself a favour, swing by the site today, and if you are so inclined come on back here and let us know what you think of it.
It’s up Now!
Hopefully everyone had a great thanksgiving weekend, despite the record breaking power outages around the lower end of Vancouver Island.
So have you checked out our [media] section in the menu options recently? Well not only are there five great sermons to listen to, as promised we’ve uploaded a copy of our Live Life With a Point brochure. So go ahead, download a copy for yourself while you catch up on Sunday’s sermon.
Field Report: Another Miracle
By Rob Turner
We posted earlier this week a field report from our recent Men’s Retreat. Well, I guess the stories couldn’t be contained into just one post. So you heard Pat Humble’s read on the weekend, well now check out Rob Turner’s.
I arrived downtown early, a trait of mine that I like to encourage, it gave me a chance to walk around, I didn’t want to hang around the A.R.C. and wait, I went to the waterfront instead, sat on a bench watching the planes take off and land on the water playing with my camera phone and guarding my big bag of clothes which was way over packed for such a short time away. I had all this stuff that I didn’t really need and in hind sight I know I waited there because I felt ashamed to wait in a place where people survived daily on very little. (more…)
Field Report: Men’s Camp 2008
By Sgt. Major Pat Humble
Ok, so any event that starts with food is good in my books and Men’s Camp – Well, let’s just say it delivered and in Biblical proportions to boot! The weekend started with a group of men all from extremely different walks with a common goal, brothers in Christ off to hit the great outdoors, the great unknown. You guessed it – Camp Sunrise! Conversation along the journey such as: “I haven’t been off the island in four years”, “thank you for inviting me”, “God’s going to do awesome stuff this weekend”, and of course, “How long until we get to Timmies!” (more…)

A quick update:
This past week our officers Lieutenants Peter and Alison Lublink headed off to business camp in Gibson’s, but the flag was still flying high as we continued to prepare for our garage sale (coming September 13 @ 8-12) and clean our building. We also further spread the love into the community (more…)
A Vision from God.
Just over a week ago now the people of High Point Community Church sat together, brainstormed and dreamed about what the future of our church was in this community. We laid out our goals in three key areas: evangelism, discipleship and social justice. We thoroughly believe that God was in the midst of that meeting, and had also planted the seeds and visions for this community in people’s hearts prior to the big meeting. Despite being at three separate tables during the initial discussion, the basic ideas that were put forward all fit perfectly together. For us, this was nothing less than a sign from God, letting us know that this was indeed the right direction for us. So what was it that most strongly came out of the meeting? A few things actually, but here are two of them: (more…)
With a Point
Finally a website with a point. [Pointful]… That is our brand-spankin new home for High Point Community Church. How’d we come up with such a word. Well its a long story, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t have something to do with the domain availability. But as design team we also felt that the word pointful really hit the nail on the head in terms of what we wanted to be. (more…)
